A dynamic and joyful brand identity,
giving a new Bakery and Coffee House
room to stand tall in the Norwich foodie scene
INSIGHT
The client requested for the identity to be able to present
a list of available offerings to the customer, but also requested for the design
to be able to introduce change and to represent the aspiration of the brand.
It was also clear that the identity could not focus on a single aspect of the brand (for example: coffee)
because the same amount of care and dedication goes into everything on the menu and it would be wrong to place one above the rest.
SOLUTION
Taking inspiration from my own notes, in a more literal sense than usual, when writing about everything
Devecchio encompasses a curvy bracket symbol is used as a category marker. This bracket acts as a space to display
everything Devecchio encompasses, such as pastries, coffee and even happy customers - which is the origin of the logo mark with the face.
The overall style was decided on collectively alongside the Devecchio team, as it was important to create an identity
everybody could be proud to work for. A physically hand-drawn style is paired with neutral greens and tall typefaces
to give a friendly but professional tone that works well alongside freshly baked goods and stylish beverages.

Hazel Campbell worked closely on the project of the Devecchio Bakery in Norwich from the early stages. This small, artisanal shop, located in the Lanes area had, as its premise, the creation & sale of hand made pastries & a variety of different breads accompanied by locally roasted coffee.
The smiling face & the use of brackets came from ideas as to how to associate the things for sale with an unknown brand. Once this was in place the project flowed & allowed the various elements to be curated from hand painted wall signs to label stickers.
I found her to be responsive, dedicated & someone with whom it was very easy to deal. I commend her in her future career & wish her every success in her chosen field.
